Inlaws & Outlaws, paired with our new short Just Marriage, airs on Kansas City Public Television (KCPT 19.2), Thursday, December 13 at 1 pm & 7 pm - and on Friday, December 14 at 1 am.

We can think of no better way to celebrate this amazing day than by releasing our latest video: Just Marriage: from Outlaws to Inlaws.

For a long time, our audiences have been asking for an update on the lives of our storytellers. When we we were invited to bring Inlaws & Outlaws to public television, we decided this was the perfect time to do just that.

We set a fundraising goal of raising $50,000 to bring Inlaws & Outlaws to public television — and thanks to you, WE MADE IT! As of today, we've met our initial goal with $50,246 raised — and, YES, Inlaws & Outlaws is now available to 350+ PBS and public television affiliates around the US!

So far we've just learned that 15 affiliates have already scheduled broadcasts of Inlaws & Outlaws — including KCTS 9 here in Seattle and KYVE in Yakima, Washington. Both stations are airing Inlaws & Outlaws and our new short Just Marriage this Friday, October 26th at 9 pm.

While we still have fundraising to do to help us reach more new stations in the new year, for now, we just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who has made this possible! We are going to reach thousands of people because of your generosity.

How can we help? FREE screenings in Washington — from now until Election Day.

We want to make sure that — before they vote — everyone in Washington knows what's at stake with Referendum 74. So we're teaming up with Washington United for Marriage to offer Inlaws & Outlaws screenings FREE to anyone in Washington state who wants to help us reach as many people as possible with our stories.

Between now and Election Day, you, your organization, congregation or school can host a screening of Inlaws & Outlaws in support of Referendum 74. Showing the film is a great way to bring the issue of marriage equality to your friends, family and co-workers in a non-political, non-confrontational way. In fact, we'll make sure it's fun.

Plus, if you want, you can use the event to raise money for your organization.

How does it work?

• We provide the film.

3. We send you a DVD, no charge — plus everything you and your audience need to know about Referendum 74.
4. You download free posters and flyers to customize, print out and promote your event.
5. Optional: if you want to raise money, we'll also send you DVDs to sell at your screening. You send us any extras and half the money to cover our expenses. You keep the other half to cover yours — or you can donate it however you'd like.

"Working as a typist or secretary most of his life, Faygele never made much money," recalled Michael Hanrahan, a ben Miriam Fund trustee. "But when the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission fired him for wearing a dress to work and openly professing his homosexuality, he pursued his case to the U.S. Supreme Court and was ultimately reinstated with back pay and damages. With the funds that remained upon his death from AIDS in 2000, he established the Faygele ben Miriam Fund to provide seed money for grass roots equity, social justice and cultural work that affirms the lives of gay men, lesbians and other oppressed people."

Evan Wolfson, of Freedom to Marry and author of Why Marriage Matters put Faygele's legacy in perspective: "[He] was part of that first wave of couples challenging the unjust and unfair denial of the freedom to marry. And he spoke for millions, at a time when, in some respects, gay people were just beginning to speak for full inclusion and the right to be let in, not just left alone."

Faygele was an inveterate organizer and meeting goer. He notoriously insisted, however, that meetings be productive. And to that end he always brought his knitting. Here he is pictured with an afghan he crafted as a gift to a friend during a series of interminable meetings that focused on Jewish support for the people of Palestine.
