  • Pride Screenings Popping Up All Over

    central_cinema.jpgInlaws & Outlaws is popping up all over for theatre and community screenings timed to celebrate Pride Month.

    On June 19th, we've got our first screening in Colorado at the historic Rialto Theatre in Loveland. Check it out here. Also on the 19th, you can see the film in Cleveland, Ohio at the Pilgrim UCC.

    Closer to home, THREE theatres in the Seattle area have special engagements of the film this month:

    On Bainbridge Island, the Lynwood Theater hosts the film Friday through Sunday, June 13-15th. These screenings are sponsored by Cedars UU Church.

    On Vashon Island, the Vashon Theatre is presenting the film June 15-17, Sunday through Tuesday.

    Central Cinema in Seattle has three shows June 22 and 23. It's the only theatre in town where you can have a pizza, enjoy a pint or some wine and see a great indie film. Plus, it's just $5.

  • KCTS Airs Inlaws and Outlaws for Pride

    Seattle PBS affiliate KCTS 9 will air Inlaws and Outlaws as part of a special Gay Pride Night, Wednesday, June 11, beginning at 7 p.m. Paired with Anyone and Everyone, both films explore relationships, marriage and family life to demonstrate how diverse yet uniquely similar we all are.

    Inlaws and Outlaws begins at 8:30 pm and will include additional interviews with some of the film's subjects. Director Drew Emery will be live in the KCTS 9 studio discussing the making of the documentary and the reactions it's sparked across North America.

  • Bishop Gene Robinson Appears at Q&A

    The second leg of the Inlaws & Outlaws Movie Tour had a tremendous New England kick off this past Thursday, March 27 with a special presentation of the film at the beautiful Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

    Joining director Drew Emery at the Music Hall was the Rt. Rev. Gene Robinson, the first and only openly gay bishop of the Episcopal Church, and bishop of the New Hampshire Diocese. Drew and Bishop Robinson's audience discussion following the film screening was an emotional highlight of the evening, moving many to tears.

  • KCTS Hosts Free Community Screening

    Seattle PBS affiliate KCTS 9 is hosting a free community screening of Inlaws & Outlaws on Wednesday, May 14, at their studios. A panel discussion and reception will follow the screening and be taped for later broadcast. Featured on the panel will be director Drew Emery and two of the subjects of the film, Heather Andersen and Leslie Christian. Andersen and Christian were named plaintiffs in the Andersen v. Sims marriage equality case decided by the Washington Supreme Court in 2006.

  • Movie Tour Heads to New England!

    tour_logo_big.jpg The second leg of the Inlaws & Outlaws Movie Tour takes the film to theatres, schools and communities all over New England starting Thursday, March 27 with a special presentation of the film at the illustrious Music Hall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

    Joining director Drew Emery at the Music Hall will be Bishop Gene Robinson, the first and only openly gay bishop of the Episcopal Church, and bishop of the New Hampshire Diocese. Bishop Robinson and Emery will hold an audience discussion following the Wild Card Series showing of the film at the Music Hall.

  • KCTS Brings Inlaws & Outlaws to TV

    Inlaws & Outlaws receives its official Broadcast Premiere on Seattle-area PBS station KCTS on Tuesday, April 1st at 10 pm as the kick-off the fourth season of their series About Us.

  • Inlaws & Outlaws Counters Anti-Gay Convention

    Inlaws & Outlaws has joined forces with Equal Rights Washington & the Religious Coalition for Equality in hosting a special screening of the movie in Edmonds, WA to oppose the controversial conference of anti-gay group, Watchmen on the Walls in neighboring Lynnwood. We need your support! This Sunday, Oct 21, Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church will host a peaceful vigil at 3:00pm, and will be followed by a FREE screening at 4:00pm. All are welcome to attend!

  • Celebrity Grand Marshals lead Seattle Pride

    Pete-e Petersen, Jane Lighty & Chuck Lazenby led the Seattle Pride Parade on June 24th. Huge crowds turned out to watch what is hotly being billed as Seattle's best Pride Parade to date.

    The Inlaws & Outlaws Celebrity Grand Marshals were rapturously received as they made their way along 4th Ave. to Seattle Center for PrideFest.

    In June 2006, Pete-e & Jane also led the Oklahoma City Pride Parade as Grand Marshals.

  • Inlaws & Outlaws receives critical acclaim

    Inlaws & Outlaws adorned the front cover of the Seattle PI's Arts & Life section on Thurs. June 21st.

    The article focused on the stories of Pete-e Petersen, Jane Lighty and Chuck Lazenby; the three stars of the film who are appearing as Celebrity Grand Marshals in this years Seattle Pride Parade (June 24th). The film was praised for its honest portrayal of heart-warming stories.

    Director, Drew Emery described the central treatise of the film as one that emphasizes the fact that "love is human, not gay or straight."

  • Grethe Cammermeyer in Flag Day Honor

    On June 14th, Colonel Grethe Cammermeyer joined Drew Emery and stars of the film for the Seattle Theatrical Premiere at the Cinerama.

    Cammermeyer shot to fame in 1994, after she challenged the US Military's anti-gay policy; a challenge which was immortalized in the movie Serving in Silence where Grethe was played by Glenn Close.

    At the end of the show, Grethe presented Chuck Lazenby witha US flag in honor of his deceased partner, David Asplund. David proudly served his country during World War II, only to be denied a US Flag upon his death, as Chuck was not recognized as his official partner.


    The flag was proudly obtained from Senator Patty Murray, and flew above the US Senate House on June 13th, 2006.

  • Three Dollar Bill Cinema as new Fiscal Sponsor

    On April 8th, Inlaws & Outlaws officially became a fiscal project of Three Dollar Bill Cinema. The move came, after over two years as a proud fiscal project of the Seattle LGBT Community Center.

    Three Dollar Bill Cinema will continue the excellent work of the LGBT Center, and as a 501©3 non-profit organization, will take Inlaws & Outlaws through the launch of our Hearts + Minds Campaign.

    The work of Three Dollar Bill Cinema ranges from organizing the annual Seattle Gay & Lesbian Film Festival to providing events and valuable resources to LGBT filmmakers and their work.

  • Celebrating Equality Day!

    Inlaws & Outlaws joined Equal Rights Washington and the Religious Coalition for Equality in bringing the film to Olympia, WA during Equality Day on February 26th!

    People from all over Washington gathered on the steps of the state capitol to rally for equality of Washington's gay lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered people. Read the full story here.

    During the rally Pete-E Peterson and Jane Lighty, stars of the film, recieved a marriage certificate from the Rev. Stephen Jones pastor of Seattle First Baptist Church, and co-conveener of RCE.

    After the rally Inlaws & Outlaws was screened to a great crowd at the Capitol Theatre, a great way to wrap up Equality Day in Olympia!

  • GSBA Campaign Kick-Off = A Huge Success!

    The GSBA joined us as we kicked-off our Hearts + Minds Campaign at the Broadway Performance Hall on Friday, February 23rd. After a reception with the director and the film’s subjects, comic Peggy Platt hosted a private screening of “Inlaws & Outlaws” followed by an auction to benefit the Hearts + Minds Campaign. Kate Beck of the GSBA won our Grand Prize: a trip for 2 to L.A. for our world premiere at the Sunset 5 Theatres, Thursday, May 3rd! Read more about it here.

  • Inlaws & Outlaws wins deadCENTER Film Festival Grand Jury Award

    On June 11th, 2006, director Drew Emery accepted the Oklahoma City festival's highest honor (top right photo). The excitement surrounding the festival show led to an added engagement during Oklahoma City Pride Fest the following month (the full story). Thanks to the grassroots effort of local churches, community leaders, Pride Fest organizers and an "Outlaws Posse" of volunteers, the film returned June 22nd through 25th for a successful four-day run. Additionally, Emery, along with two of the film's stars, Pete-e Petersen and Jane Lighty (bottom right photo), served as Grand Marshalls in the annual Pride Parade. Thanks to everyone in Oklahoma City for two amazing weekends!
