Inlaws & Outlaws Counters Anti-Gay Convention
Inlaws & Outlaws has joined forces with Equal Rights Washington & the Religious Coalition for Equality in hosting a special screening of the movie in Edmonds, WA to oppose the controversial conference of anti-gay group, Watchmen on the Walls in neighboring Lynnwood. We need your support! This Sunday, Oct 21, Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church will host a peaceful vigil at 3:00pm, and will be followed by a FREE screening at 4:00pm. All are welcome to attend!
The Lynnwood Convention Center will play host to the vehemently homophobic group, the Watchmen on the Walls Ocotober 19-21.
As a move to oppose this gathering of international extremists, Inlaws & Outlaws has teamed up with Equal Rights Washignton, the Religious Coalition for Equality and with the support of the Mayor of Lynnwood, Don Gough to bring a special screening of the movie to Edmonds. A peaceful vigil at 3:00pm will be followed by the FREE screening at 4:00pm. A post-film discussion with the filmmaker and community leaders will also take place.
Filmmaker, Drew Emery will be at the screening in leading the joint effort to combat the ethos of hate and violence toward the LGBT community that the Watchmen on the Walls promote. A lead subject of Inlaws & Outlaws and one of this year's Pride Parade Celebrity Grand Marshals, Chuck Lazenby will also be in attendance. A peaceful vigil lead by RCE Co-Convener, Rev. Monica Corsaro will precede a showing of Inlaws & Outlaws.
This screening will demonstrate a commitment to equality and acceptance that overshadows the destructive and intolerant influence of organizations such as Watchmen on the Walls.
"Most things are not particularly black and white as this but, yes, their message is hate and ours is love. I think a peaceful, joyful celebration of love will help turn whatever predictable publicity these folks get into something that marginalizes their message without sensationalism. We want to recognize, celebrate and affirm love. We thought showing the film with a local congregation will be the perfect way to counter this extreme element that claims to represent the religious community." -- filmmaker, Drew Emery.
You can help support the efforts of Inlaws & Outlaws and allied organizations by joining us at Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Church, Edmonds on October 21st. Help us counter the message of these 'anti-gay warriors' and build a community founded upon equality, tolerance and love.
